2010s SUPERCUP MATCH DAY 3

Linfield 2010s continued their Supercup experience today with our final group game against Belvedere from Dublin. The game was a nervy affair at the start with both teams knowing that the winner would top the group and go into the main semi final tomorrow.

The deadlock was broken when young Jamie Hamilton was adjudged to have been fouled by the Belvedere goalkeeper and the referee awarded a penalty. Alex McClatchey took the penalty and confidently found the bottom corner to put the wee Blues 1-0 in front. Just before half time we had a great chance to go 2 up but unfortunately, Ryley Sloan’s effort when past the upright.

Half time 1-0

When the second half started Belevedere started on the front foot and scored the equaliser not long after the restart to make it 1-1. The wee Blues took a while to settle but eventually started to put the pressure on and went ahead again when the ball was cleared to the edge of the box and Ryley Sloan confidently stroked the ball home with another calm and precise finish. Belvedere came at us again and they were awarded a penalty when their striker was fouled in the box. The Belvedere player calmed stroked the ball home to make it 2-2. Unfortunately for the wee Blues, Belvedere went on to score another 2 goals to win the match 4-2 and progress to the semi final.

We have now finished second in the group and will take on Surf Select in the semi final of the SCNI Globe at The Warren in Portstewart with a 12-30 kick off on Thursday.

This will be another good test for the lads to play against a team that they have never played against before.
