Hello Andy,
Just a few magical memories,
Some classic matches come to mind;
After experiencing heartache against Glentoran in Irish Cup Finals, the sweetest of sweet moments was beating them in the Irish Cup Final to clinch the Grand Slam in 20005 / 2006.
Also the Billy Murray classic of beating the Glens 5 - 2 after being 2 nil down at half time and the memory of Billy swinging his shirt above his head is legendary.
The Eurpoean night against Panathanikos was magical. For a few moments we were in dreamland.
Also the Jimmy Martin hat-trick at the Oval against Glentoran to win 3 -2 after being 2 nil down.
Winning the league against Glentoran after having to wait a nail biting 5 minutes for the Portadown v Glenavon result.
Running about the Spion Kop as a nipper and my Dad would say don't worry son "Sammy will save us" and like magic Pavis would pop up to score the goals !
So many magical memories.
Picking the best Linfield team ever is impossible but here is my favourite one;
George Dunlop, Alan Fraser, John Easton, Peter Rafferty, Noel Bailie, Peter Dornan, Davy Nixon, Tommy Dickson, Martin McGaughey, Glen Ferguson, Billy Murray. Subs. Alan Mannus, Alan Dornan, Lyndsay McKeown, William Murphy, Isaac Andrews, Michael Gault, Billy Ferguson, Peter Thompson, Sammy Pavis, Jackie Milburn, Joe Bambrick.
I was privileged to watch and still can watch some of these legends. With a few of them I was not old enough to watch, however their legendary status is enough to warrant a place in the team.
My favourite player would have to be Davy Nixon - to me he epitomised all that a Linfield player should be, he played for the jersey, sweated blood for the team and his workrate was phenomenal as well as an abundance of skill.
Here's to many more legends and many more Irish Cup Final triumphs over Glentoran !
Fortune Favours the Brave.
